Breitling Superocean
In 1995 a new watch enters the diving watch market. Inspired by the heavy duty, military diving watches akin to those used by the Navy Seals, Breitling releases Colt SuperOcean. Breitling Colt Superoacean featured a 3 mm thick case back with 3.7 mm thick crystal, helium release valve, and was rated to be water resistant to 3300 feet.
The following year, Breitling added to the Superocean line by offering the watch in 18 kt yellow gold watch with a B10 movement. This was the only SuperOcean movement that was COSC certified at that time.
In 1998, in addition to Colt Superocean, Brietling released a Colt Superocean Professional (SO Professional), a watch rated water resistant to 5000 feet with a choice of a black or yellow dial. SO Professional was only available in stainless steel and was not a COSC certified watch.
In the end of the 90’s all Superocean Professional movements became COSC certified and replaced the mineral glass crystal to a more durable sapphire crystal. In the early 2000, Breitling officially turned Superocean into their own line by dropping “Colt” from the name.
Over the next few years, Breitling Superocean went through a number of modification that improved readability and longevity of the watch. Currently the Superocean line features five distinct watches:
Superocean 42
Breitling Superocean 42 has an automatic, caliber 17, 25 jewel movement with a 40 hour power reserve. The watch is water resistant to 5000ft and features a unidirectional, elapsed time bezel, date window, screw-locked crown with two gaskets, and glare proof sapphire crystal. The watch comes with a variety of bracelets to choose from: leather, diver pro, ocean racer, or professional.
Superocean 44
Breitling Superocean 44 is almost indistinguishable from Superocan 42. The watch is also equipped with a caliber 17, 25 jewel movement with a 40 hour power reserve, features a unidirectional, elapsed time bezel, date window, screw-locked crown with two gaskets, and glare proof sapphire crystal. However, unlike the Superocean 42, Superocean 44 is rated water resistant to 6600 feet. Superocean 44 is also slightly heavier and wider than its predecessor.
Superocean Chronograph II
This elegant, high performance, 44 mm diving watch that features a caliber 13, 25 jewel movement with a 42 hour power reserve, a standard set of chronograph complications, an elapsed time bezel, and date. Much like the rest of the watches in the Superocean line, the Chronograph II comes with a choice of bracelets style to complement your personal style.
Superocean Chronograph M2000
This is one a truly revolutionary diving watch. Superocean Chronograph M2000 features the first chronograph that can be safely operated at depth with the help of the special, patented, magnetic push-piece system. This system allow the wearer to operate the functions of the chronograph through the metal of the case. In addition to the revolutionary chronograph controls, the watch features a caliber 73, quartz movement with a 394/2 to 3 year battery life. The watch is water resistant to 6600 feet and is equipped with an elapsed time bezel, cambered sapphire crystal, and a state of the art chronograph.
Superocean GMT
The stylish and multifunctional Superocean GMT is just as useful at sea as on dry land. This stunning Breitling creation features an additional, 24 hour dial and is available in all white as well as black and stainless steel.
Superocean GMT is equipped with a caliber 32, 21 jewel movement with a 42 hour power reserve. The watch is waterproof to 1650 feet and features a highly readable elapsed time bezel, luminous Arabic numerals, and cambered sapphire crystal. Unlike other Superocean watches, this particular models is only available with a choice of a rubber or professional bracelets.
