The IWC Portuguese Collection of marine watches was inspired by the 16th and 17th century Portuguese pioneers in world exploration. The Portuguese watches pay tribute to the distant past of the precision navigation by incorporating traditional nautical instruments with modern technology and a smart design.

These thin, durable, and highly functional chronograph instruments are designed with a sailor in mind. With a myriad of useful tool ranging from chronograph and date complications to counters, moonphase indicators, 7 day power reserve, and perpetual calendar functions, these stunning watches have it all.

Timepieces in this collection are crafted out of corrosion resistant materials, protected by a screw down crown, and scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The watches feature hyper accurate movements capable of keeping accurate time even in the harshest weather conditions. These watches are truly a dream come true for any captain, avid yachtsman, or an individual that simply enjoys a durable, stylish, and accurate watch.

The history of the Portuguesa collections began in the early 1930’s when a group of Portuguese businessmen were searching for a precise, superbly crafted and durable watch. They ended up ordering a set of stainless steel watches outfitted with marine chronometer movements. In order to oblige their request, IWC had to get creative. At that time, the only marine grade movement that IWC made was a hunter pocket watch movement. Although the design appeared slightly bulky for the era, IWC continued production and by 1939, the new Portuguese line was born.

In 1967, IWC released a Portuguese Yacht Club Automatic, a watch that bridged the gap between new and old Portuguese wristwatches. This model was perfectly suited for any salty dog. Clean, uncluttered design of the dial promoted legibility while new developments in movement technology allowed the watch to decrease in size and weight.

Today, the Portuguese Collection is just as beautiful and durable as ever. Continued technological developments made the watches in this line more streamlined, and technologically accurate. Currently the Portuguese Collection consists of the following models:
